What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. The site you visit sets first-party cookies. Other services whose content appears on that site set third-party cookies. Local storage and IndexedDB are similar browser features that keep data on your device without sending it with every request.
Cookies on the website
_ga, set by Google Analytics: tells one browser's visits apart from another's, so we can count visitors. Lasts 2 years._ga_<ID>, set by Google Analytics: keeps track of your current visit (session). Lasts 2 years.sidebar_state, set by shadcndesign.com: remembers whether the docs sidebar is open or closed. Lasts 7 days.sd_exp, set by shadcndesign.com: keeps you in the same group of an A/B test. Set only while a test runs, and lasts 90 days.
Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie. It stays there until you clear your browser data.
Cookies in DS Manager
__Secure-ds-manager.session_token, set by DS Manager: keeps you signed in. Lasts until you sign out or the session expires.__Secure-ds-manager.state, set by DS Manager while you sign in with GitHub or Google: checks that the sign-in that comes back is the one you started. Lasts a few minutes.ds-shell-theme, set by DS Manager: remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. Lasts 1 year.
DS Manager uses Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies. If you use DS Manager without an account, your design systems are kept in your browser's IndexedDB and never reach our servers.
Cookies from embedded content
Some pages show content from other services: Loom videos in the free Academy lessons and in some blog posts, and Figma file embeds on component pages. When a page loads them, Loom and Figma can set their own cookies. We don't control these cookies. Loom's and Figma's own privacy policies explain them.
Blocking and deleting cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block cookies on DS Manager, you can't sign in. These pages explain how to manage cookies in the most common browsers:
